The building has begun! - 17th century houses in DT

This week we have begun to assemble our 17th century houses in DT. We began by testing a range of attachment tools to see which would be the best and strongest for joining our boxes together. We settled on masking tape and PVA glue because they were strong and could be painted over unlike cellotape.

Next in small groups, the children began to plan their designs, discussing the choices they wanted e.g. how many boxes they were planning to use and if they wanted to paint it or cover it in paper?

Finally, the build began with the children assembling and attaching the boxes.

They have already decorated the first layer of the design with paint or paper and next will be adding the chimneys, windows and doors and second layer designs (wooden beams).

Watch this space to see the finished models!
