'Toys from the past' Grandparents afternoon.

A big thank you to the lovely grandparents who volunteered themselves to come in and tell year 1 about the toys they had and played with as a child. The children enjoyed listening to the stories and information they were given and it was a great learning experience. They especially loved the opportunity to play some of the games and toys they were told about.

Back in class, we asked the children to write about what they learnt from the grandparents talk and this is what they had to say. I am sure you will be as impressed as we are! 😁👍🏻

(Pink highlighter is for spotting good work, in this case, the use of past tense vocabulary and green highlighter is for spotting mistakes to correct)

Identifying and drawing plants and flowers 🌺

The children have been looking at the flowers in our school grounds and trying to identify them by name using classification charts. They then completed some observational drawings where they had to pay close attention to the colours, shapes and sizes of the leaves and petals. Here are some of the good drawings.

Summer term so far....

In History we have been looking at the kind of toys we have nowadays and when the children brought in their favourite toys, they had to tell each other about them including what they do, how they are played with and what they are made of. The children then sorted their toys into different categories such as 'soft' toys, 'blue' toys and 'moving' toys. Can you spot your toy?

In Science we have been spotting the signs of Spring and also have been identifying and sorting different leaves from our playground. Can you remember the names of any trees?

In Computing we have been inputting algorithms into BeeBots to instruct them to move to specific places on floor mats. Which buttons can you press?

In Literacy we have been writing instructions to make jam butties. They were delicious! Can you remember how to make them?
