Phonics and reading support at home.

There is a great free website with interactive phonics games which will support your child as they continue in their journey to becoming confident readers.

Feel free to check it out and if you like it, the children can access the games
on a computer on:
https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com

Also, at this moment in time, the app is also free to download on a tablet or smartphone!

What have we been doing in 1G this week?

In maths the children have been creative with numbers. They have been demonstrating how they can count and order accurately up to 30 and some have been representing numbers up to 100 using various objects including numicon, counters, playing cards. They have also been reading and writing numbers in words.

In this week's 24 minutes of discovery time, the children made their own creations from various resources such as lego, wooden blocks, playdoh, paint and paper crafts. In RE we have been talking about how we should be proud of the things we make and how we should respect and look after each other's creations.

Another productive week in 1G!

This week, we have begun the countdown to our Harvest assembly which will be on Wednesday 4th October. In preparation the children have been making some Autumn themed posters to display and learning some Harvest songs. The children will also have a small speaking part which I have asked them to practice at home.

In History this week, as an opening to our topic 'The Gunpowder Plot', the children began considering the past and had to try and sort some objects into old and new. They had good ideas and began to grasp the tricky concept that humans haven't always had technology such as mobile phones, Tv's, computers and cameras and that these are relatively new objects in the world compared to the 1600's.

They have also been practicing their counting and adding using 100 squares, number lines and cubes to support them.

Some children had a chance to show off their phonic skills by making words.

Another lovely week in 1G! 👍🏻😁

Welcome to 1G!

Welcome to 1G. This blog is designed to keep families informed about what we have been up to in class and to celebrate good work and achievements. We do welcome any positive comments however please remember to keep them neutral without mentioning any specific names e.g 'my son really enjoyed this activity'. We've had a lovely first week and have achieved a lot in a short space of time. The children have settled in well and are adapting nicely to their new rules and routines. So far we've written about ourselves and shared our chatter boxes, matched number bonds to 10, been on an Autumn walk around the playground, labelled our bodies, completed some Autumn collages and had our first Discovery Time session....just to name a few! Discovery Time can be earned by collecting marbles (minutes) every time someone is spotted following our golden rules. I will try to update the blog weekly or as often as possible. Hope you enjoy! 😀   These are our fantastic chatter boxes which showed a lot of creativity and effort. Thank you for helping the children with these, they enjoyed listening to each other and sharing their favourite things.

Here are a selection of some of the activities completed this week.

This afternoon the children enjoyed exploring the resources in our classroom and worked well together during discovery time.
